Caught this football Saturday afternoon. 18" x 14" @ 4lb-3oz, my PB to date. Five feet of water with 34" of ice didn't leave much room between the bottom of the ice and the bottom of the lake but I set my bait, a 1/16oz Slushbug jig tipped with a beetle pupa a foot below the ice and dead-sticked in a Jawjacker. It was cool to see the 36" rod spring and not go to full height but instead bending downward as the fish peeled line. At first when the head came into the hole three feet below I thought it was a nice male bow but then it twisted and I saw the sides and realized I had a nice Brookie. That's when I really got excited!

And discovered that SK has a Master Angler Program like Manitoba's...wish I'd discovered that info a couple seasons ago as I'd have about a half dozen pike and at least 6 more brookies and a dozen rainbows I could have entered.

December 8th and we were on the ice finally. 30 minutes in we were off to a good start with this 20"+ rainbow. Feels good to be on the ice again and we sure like the new Otter Pro Cabin. It's the perfect size for the two of us and sets up very easily. Can't wait to see what the rest of the day has in store. We are sitting on a measured 8" of nice clear ice with about 3" snow on top.

Three days later I was out solo and though it was a slow day with only 2 bites all day I managed another 20" chunky rainbow. Fishing is on hold until I am recovered from a surgery today(14th) but as soon as I am mobile we'll be after the walleye and pike.

WOW! Those are some beautiful fish! And very well fed, really chunky fish. Congrats on catching a tiger trout. Never knew they existed.
