Well, hoping to go try a few new lakes around the cottage again. Ran into slush last year and was wondering people fish these conditions? I'm assuming short walks would be doable but is it worth seeing up tent? Dig it out and keep your feet up? Or Pack super light and open hole? Or look for a lake with better conditions. Looking for some insight, stories etc.

Slog slushbound sleigh until exhausted, shovel a space for pop-up, which becomes watery slush hole. move tent beside new pond and place on top of snow. Use slush from previous attempt to glue your fully inflated wind sock, err, pop-up to the foot or two of fluffy snow on top o the 2 feet of slush.... OK first 2 hours accounted for... At this point you can give up and wait until the new slush lake you built freezes overnight (and makes things real easy) the next day.. OR spend the next 4 hours ballancing on your baitbucket in your wind ravaged hut, afraid to turn the heater on (see slush lake). FISH? absolutely none HA HA. What a wonderful weekend of the good ole outdoors. Cheers!!!

My son is only available for 2 days so HECK YA! I can recover for 5 days now, poor bite this weekend, lots of excercise...Things I have learned, mild followed by snow then cold equals bad time to go for a walk on a lake, send the mother-in-law with her Yorkie instead....

Fun, fresh air, beautiful country, exercise are adjectives I use to cover the pain and agony of defeat at the hands of Ma Nature, struggling to find my crumpled baitfish reciept and mostly testing the grumpy old mans limits of family relationships, hypothermia, cardiac distress and personal failure. Ice fishing...and generally being a Canadian...requires a sense of humour. I won't quit, though LOL.
