Light-proofing Clam flip-over., For sightfishing.

Hi all,

Looking to spray the inside of my flip-over with something black. Currently it lets in a bit too much light through the light grey fabric. What's the best product to use that will stick well to fabric and not peel/shred off over time?

Idk...maybe taking a tarp for over it? I'm curious of such a product existing?

I would be interested in knowing how to fix this also.

I bought a new Frabill pop up tent and after 3 or four trips it already looks beat to hell.

Double-sided tape- or? and weed cloth/ fabric interior, may insulate more? Jank it with what you got! Lol

thermal huts are the way to go IMO, I do understand not always an option as they come with quite a price difference though

Read on a different forum of guys using black Loc tite color guard which is an rubberized aerosol coating. Said it worked great. It was an old thread so not sure where to find that stuff but I’m sure there’s similar products available.

I have used this product for years on my pop up. Its not isolated.
Every few years all the cracks start showing up I just buy a few cans and spray, during the fall. I have had no issues with this product.

I also sprayed it on my underwater camera to give some additional waterproofing on the seals.

Just a caution here. On "another" board (Dec 2017) this topic was discussed and the results explained. The fellow used Liquid Dip wrecked the tent canvas on his flipover.

I agree, a flip over without the rubber spray already might something I may not want to do. They are not cheap to replace or repair.

I do wonder about using it right away with a heater if the coating would off gas anything hazardous? When you do this do you let it dry and then heat cycle it with a buddy heater before you use it?

For sure its flammable, during application and drying. I applied in the morning on a sunny day. Took 15-20min to dry. Let stand of an hour with all windows and vents open. Then let it sit for the rest of the day. Packed up without straps just incase the rubber stuck together. No issues. Opened up again a week later to see how it looks and made touch ups.

Please keep in mind that this is for touch ups for cracking in the black rubber. I wore a resperator to apply as applying in large areas.
Its easier to see all the cracks and holes with it blacked out as much as possible.

Its been 2 years since I applied and I should be able to get one more season before I apply again.

I was gonna start the same topic. I was wondering if the LEAKSEAL from Home Depot would work or even bond to the existing black layer? Anyone try?

I was even thinking flex seal.

My issue is actually I would like my insulated to block more light. It’s very bright inside as it’s light blue and white material. It’s a 4 man only 11lbs which makes it great for a walker but the light level is way to high for sight fishing.

It the OutSunny 4 man insulated. Fat finger said 11lbs but it’s 21lbs. Lol. Still super light.
Overall dimension: 80.75"L x 70.75"W x 70.75"H

Cons.
The biggest draw back is the skirt is small and thin material. It lets light in so it’s not for sight fishing at all.

Pros
Never had an issue with set up as it’s easy. Ice spikes are better than my HT hut came with. Insulation is very warm, often I don’t use my heater at all.
Zippers are all good. Poles are good and have never broken.
