great update

we decided to keep our cabin open.ceiling wise after lots of debate. heat loss for sure but the ambience is worth it

Hey LS, with ambience, did you mean there was a nicer airier/loftier feel with the higher ceiling without the insulation? How much heat loss would you guess you lose (i.e., how much more heating would you need to keep the same warmth)? Just in case there is a similar discussion here one day.
