Had to be 20 years ago, I caught a ling that had an 18 inch lamprey attached to it. It let go when it realized it was out of the water. Needless to say I killed it and released the ling. This was fishing with an operator situated by the Manitou islands.

Those things freak me out! The only good lamprey is a dead one.

Why not send the photo to a CO to see what they say?

I have seen a few silver lampreys on pike and muskies from Nip. Pretty common to see old scars on fish. I’d be careful about advertising that you’re killing them as they are native and federally protected. Also celebrated in some indigenous cultures, I believe.

That lamprey is called an Al McDonald. They bleed the taxpayer dry.

Both fish and lamprey were released. The lamprey fell off about 30 seconds after we caught the fish and I picked it up with the scoop.
