Who does that? I normally just buy new ones and I rarely use jigs. I bought this rinky dink sharpener from CTC but I don't like it too much. What do people use? What's wrong with a reg oilstone or whetstone?

It definitely makes a difference in your hookup ratio , the bigger the hook the more important it is. I don’t know too many musky guys who don’t have a file ready in the boat.
I just use a bass pro brand one , I don’t like the ones with the grooves in it.

I would say that shapening hooks is vitally important, especially if you're using mono line which naturally has a lot of stretch. Braid and Flurocarbon not so much because of the almost lack of stretch absorbing the hook-set. You need the sharpness to counteract that stretch and bite into the flesh easily.

I find my barbs seem to get damaged easier. I wish there was an easy solution for that. I’ve touched up the odd hook here and there, usually with a diamond file on my lansky hand sharpener.

Just find one that's comfortable for you to hold. I'm too clumsy for the little rinky-dink ones, so I found the Luhr Jensen Hook File perfect for me. Probably have a bunch in the basement somewhere, but this one has served me well for over a decade. I also agree with you on the replacement bit. I prefer new hooks over sharpened ones (maybe cuz I'm not the best at it), but for jigs and lures it's not cost efficient for me.
