Ice went out two days ago on my favourite whitefish lake. I recently crafted new carpeted bunks for my boat trailer, but had to launch the boat to work on the trailer. So I putted up the road with my boy to a lake I’m very familiar with, and launched the boat to start work on the trailer… only took about ten minutes to pop the old bunks off (both hanging by a thread) and installed the new ones with proper hardware. Of course, the boat was in the water now and I had a couple rods with me… of course… couldn’t be a better day to test the waters! My son must of asked me 100 times in those ten minutes; “are we going fishing yet?”…. Of course! Went right to my ice fishing spot and marked a fish, devoted to spot lock and give it a jig…. Hit and a miss! Things slowed down… putted around, marked piles on the bottom in 65fow, managed one from 45 fow, missed thee. My son got to net his first fish of the season, many to come! We were out there about hour and half two hours, time to call it, we skipped lunch prepping the boat and the snacks weren’t cutting it, we needed to get home and eat that whitefish! What a great day out on lake.
