Ice is starting to go in the lakes south of Dorset. So far it is just the shorelines, river inlets and bays. Not ready for boating yet but it wont be long … probably a few more days. Even lake of Bays has sections of water open.

My daughter & son in law went to check on their Honey Harbour cottage today.....no ice. I was surprised since just a few days ago, the sat photos showed ice on the west side of Beausoleil Island. Good news though...12 days until Walleye and Pike opening in GB.

Most Haliburton lakes are ice free now. I was up there but no hydro for 24 hours made us change plans and head home. Easter did wasn’t cooking without hydro.

I’m near Haliburton as well and currently on a small medium lake with current, and we still have about 50% ice coverage left. My neighbours have 10ft high pile of ice/slush (looks like snow) on their beach front from the wind piling the ice.. we had about 24” black ice on this lake. The bigger lakes I checked in the area all have at least 70% ice coverage as well, the sheets are mush and floating around, the canoe can’t break the ice though, good way to shred your paddle. The aluminum boat would get stuck for sure as well. Later in the week most lakes should be 90% clear in my area. I could probably sneak out between some ice sheets and jig for lakers and whitefish, but I’ll wait another couple days, don’t want to get stuck in the ice. So close!
