Well buddy and I went to see if we could get some pan fish as winds were supposed to be really high. After some looking and trying for the panfish we gave up as to early. So we decided to boat to the big river, didn't bring any gear but had 1 jig and a plastic laying in bottom of boat. 1.5 hr later we had our limit of nice males. Wind did get up really high, so was a slow ride back in the big river.

With the current there I'm surprised you had big enough jigs if you didn't plan on fishing there.

I heard they can swim out of the river right up on the grass down there looking for worms. All you have to do is pick them up. LOL Good job. A few more weeks until we will be catching them on Balsam and Sturgeon.

woodsman I only use a 5/8oz jig so not that surprising. I had 2 in my cup holder, turns out one had a broken hook.
crappeeman, you are almost correct they start off attacking jigs then worm harnesses. this time of year it doesn't take much to get your limit. the detroit river usually starts early april and st clair river starts about now and will be good for a month.

as far as ramps go there are lots of them along the river, not sure if putting exact one out there is good. Fish are everywhere now I would think, from Walpole Island right to Sarnia. Right now vertical jigging I think is the best method. Being vertical or as close to it is critical. In a week or two trolling worm harnesses down stream just fast enough to make the blades spin. There are usually lots of boats in the spot you want to fish not hard to find.
