Nice boat reelinginthebigone , I guess you don’t have to worry too much about the winds on that eh
I still have to worry about the winds after a point. It's only a 23-footer, so let's be honest for a second, even 3-footers aren't fun fishing. I can be out in 4 footers and still not worry, but after about 4 feet they start coming over the bow if I hit it incorrectly. I also need to be holding on with one hand at all times during 4-footers. Most of the time, unless the fishing is amazing or the entire week looks terrible, I won't try to battle 4-footers too long and just call it a day - it certainly isn't safe because they throw me all over the boat.
Also, the trolling motor will start coming out of the water around 4-foot waves.
I typically look at the weather and if it's over 25km wind I might just stay home.
When I tow it down to Lake Ontario, I feel like a canoe compared to all the other boats Salmon fishing. And Lake Ontario waves start at 3 feet typically lol.. but they are more rollers with larger periods between waves rather than short period breaking waves as we get in Simcoe.

And I've fished on my 10-foot kayak (yes on kayak) off BBP a few times when wind was well over 30KM/h:-) But granted, I was fishing in bay, not in main lake.

I have no idea how your kayak keeps you afloat with those massive balls of steel, James.

I agree with you reelinginthebigone, it's no fun trying to fish in rolling whitecaps on Lake Simcoe. I got only 17.5 ft long, it is a deep V hull, I can handle white caps 3-4 feet .........but bigger than that and I go home. And even trying to jig for whitefish is very difficult as the boat is bouncing up and down so much! I get the best luck catching whitefish if I can keep my lure within 10" from the bottom.

Got out around 8:15 am and fished until 11 am. They were lively when we first got out there. Worked the 90-110ft area about 300-500 feet away from the cluster of boats. Had lots of runners, lots of hookups, and landed quite a few
Had a few 11s, one 15.5 lbs, and one monster 17.5 lbs (hers!)
Here are some pics. She outfished me, as always! Swimbaits were the ticket today. I only got one on my shad, and a little smallmouth bass haha.
Mine was a tagged fish. See the orange tag? I'll call it in and give them all the info.
Every single fish was successfully returned to the depths using the wonderful fish descender. Everyone needs one of these!

Nice fish guys. I think I drove right by you at one point (16ft old red Lund tinner) outside of the crowd. . Came out to the regular haunts and saw the floatilla and said to hell with this. Eventually found some whitefish and went 1/3 with few missed bites.

Nice fish VBB! All y'all getting whitefish like mad. I'm assuming you guys are using blade baits for the whities.
Yeah, getting outside of that pack was key.
I think I remember seeing your red lund. I'll keep an eye out for you next time.
