It can't get any better. More or less all the experiences in a trip (good, bad, hot and cold weather, windy, calm, etc., etc.) And lots of fish and seeing your next gen take over some of the chores with proficiency. Well done papa.

Great report on an awesome trip. It sure was hot and sunny on Friday and Saturday in the park, we came out a couple days before you and missed the colder weather.
Those really dark lakers are different eh, I’ve caught the odd one over the years, both in and out of the park. Not sure if it’s the areas they frequent, food choices, or just genetics that makes them so dark?
Question: how did you get away with a 20lb pack? When I was doing our double-trip portaging, I grabbed another guys pack and jokingly said “ I see you’ve packed a bunch of inflated helium balloons.” It was big but didn’t weigh much. Even a small day pack with drinks, lunch, tackle, bait, etc seems close to 20 lb.

We singled the portage but most of the heavy stuff,pots ,pans and tent went in packs for people not carrying a canoe.We had three boats for seven people so four people could carry the heavy packs. We had our food planned perfectly with almost nothing going over the long portage. We also pack light and I mean light! Nothing extra. Sadly we picked up about ten pounds of bottles and garbage and cans at a portage to a side lake. The kids insisted we carry it out and we both agreed.

Very sad to see there was that much garbage even in the interior. Good on your kids for wanting to carry it al out. One thing you guys can do is to leave it clearly marked at end/start of portages and let the park staff know. They do go in their often enough to maintain many portage routes and can get the trash the next time they are working on the trails. But still good on your kids for wanting to take it out. I get so depressed about the future of our planet when I see so many of the younger people in their cars idling to keep the heat or A/C on while they stare at their phones, etc. (I see it EVERYtime I drive anyway to run errands - and I am not exaggerating - sometimes multiple people on the same trip out).
