I had heard reports in the last 2-3 years but never seen one. I caught two last summer. One small one netting minnows, then a 10"'er in August. I just caught another last night. 11 inches. Neighbor caught 4-5 between last year and this weekend, all big slabs.

I guess they're established...

Are you guys actually targeting them or are they “by-catch”?

Incidentals. I caught the 1st one last year trolling a spinner rig.

I may try targeting them, just to see what happens.

Good and maybe bad. I remember hearing some folks believing that the crappie invasion into Lake Scugog contributed to the decline in the walleyes in that lake (use to be a great walleye fishery and now, all closed up). Let's hope for the best (it is a big lake so maybe different outcomes).

Catching crappie in the west end is not something new. We caught them there back in the 80's so I would think any fear of them out competing the walleye in the lake is not founded.

Arnie

As soon as the locals, DB and Crappieman find the crappie haunts on Nipissing, the walleyes can relax ...

On a serious note, I agree with Spank,

In the 80-90s during the influx of crappies into Ontario waters everyone was worried about them outcompeting the local species but now everyone is chasing after them (crappies).
