I’m heading up to mashkinonje lodge this weekend, can anyone tell me how the bite has been this week? I usually fish around the northwest bay area so I’m excited to explore some new water! I’ll be targeting Walleye, Pike, and Smallmouth.

Fishing's been slower than average this year. The lake is a little "off" with the way the spring went.
You're gonna arrive right after a massive mayfly hatch (or possibly while it's ending). They were out "en masse" on Sunday. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! I’ve never fished during the mayfly hatch before. I know some people think it’s the worst, and some people say it’s amazing fishing. What has been your experience?

It tends to be slow. Moreso for walleye than anything else in Nip.

Honestly the time of year is good. The water is warm enough that the fish are on the feed, but the thermocline hasn't set up yet and the weeds are just starting. There's lots of hatches, lots of food and fish still shallow.
The problem is once a good mayfly hatch is on, everything gets a full belly pretty easy.
If you can catch it the week prior, it's one of my favorite times to fish for 'eyes.

Look for cabbage for 'eyes and pike. You'll get smallies on rocky shorelines.

If the mayfly hatch is on, don't forget your slow death hooks.
