Quebec trip

Not exactly a northern lake, but I spent the long weekend fishing in the saltwater of the St. Lawrence River at Tadoussac, QC. This was my first trip out of Ontario to fish, and obviously my first time in saltwater. I didn't get as many species as I'd hoped for due to time restrictions, but there will be return trips. It's kind of surreal to be shore fishing and watching whales (minkes & belugas) spouting at the same time. Here is what I managed to add to my species list this time around.
Arctic shanny (Stichaeus punctatus) Species # 75

Arctic staghorn sculpin (Gymnocanthus tricuspis, species # 76)

Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua, species #77) The largest of the 3 that came home with me.

Grubby (Myoxocephalus aenaeus, species #78)

Radiated shanny (Ulvaria subbifurcata, species # 79)

Rock gunnel (Pholis gunnellus, species # 80)

Cool pictures of your fish. My grandfather lived in New Brunswick so I love ocean fishing. I only targeted Flounder, it's an amazing tasting fish. There are so many different fish in the ocean, too many to count. Good luck on your next search for fish to add to your totals.

very cool. Did you need to get a fishing license to fish the salt waters there? I caught a sand lance with my hands down by a dock one evening in Tadoussac...it wasn't doing so well but was still alive.

No license needed to fish in the salt water, but any inland lakes or rivers would require one.

Good to know. Yes, where you are, there are lots of whales, and very close to shore too. If you head about 20 min. east of Tadoussac, there is a campground called Mer et Monde...they offer some of the most incredible camping on the rocky shores with the whales within (literally) a rock's throw away. There are other camp grounds near there (like Bon Desir and I can't remember the other) - not as nice and more car camping kind of deal. about another 5 min. east (if I remember correctly), there is a pretty decent supermarket that the locals tend to use...I found it much better stocked with quality food than the supermarkets in Tadoussac. At Mer et Monde, I would highly recommend taking one of their guide sea kayak tours (1/2 day is like 4 hours) - because the whales are so close to shore there, you are very likely to be crossing paths with a few.
