Thank you so much for all the info. Hope you don't mind if I have the add question. I was out there yesterday in the hole and further towards G Tomb and fished on the left side of G Tomb towards mainland in mostly 70 to 100 feet of water and 40 to 50 feet down. No Fish. I spend approx. 6 hrs trolling. It was to hot. I have a small boat 16.5 ft Lund with 40 hp and 4 hp kicker. So what i want to say is that i can't get out there on a shitty weather even if the fish bite better on overcast days. It is a long way from midland when I get caught in bad weather.
Anyway I thought I git it a try.
Thank again

Keep going but try and stay on the leeward shorelines and use the shorelines to block the wind. i understand it can be a long run for you and others. Try going during low light period of the day. If you can only go midday then find deeper water and fish deeper on your downrigger, 70-100 on your rigger over 80-150 feet of water. Some salmon will go deeper during high sun and often times with the right approach and bait they wont be able to pass up an easy meal. in the low light periods of the day try fishing a bit shallower than what i described. Also try and find some bait and stay in the vicinity of it. try varying depths and never the same depths if you are not catching and lastly never troll in a straight line, lots of turns. i can go on and on lol

Not sure what I do wrong. Today I went out to the Hole and i thought it woud be a good time for salmon fishing. I guess I was wrong. I tryed all shallow water 30 to 50 ft downrigger set to 25 and 35 ft.then deeper water down 50 to 70 ft but no luck. after 4 hrs nothing happen not even fals release I gave up and did som pike fishing. I did better there. I am allways open for a good teaching lesson. Thanks

Sounds like you need to work your sonar a bit better. If I don't see hooks I don't even bother putting baits in the water, especially when I'm fishing salmon/lakers.

I believe Sonar is my big problem. I use a Lowrance 5 HDI. And I think the Sonar is gone. I have to invest in a new system.

Untill i get a new Transducer for my unit can someone tell me what depht to fish in the hole. Like i said before my unit is schowing the map with speed and depht to bottom but will not do down scanning. My sreen is just black. Thanks

i think if you look back Krawler has covered that topic quite well, you could move in and out between 80 to 130 feet changing depths on your rigger often till you find fish.Hard to do with no electronics, soon you will get the skunk smell out of your boat. Someone told me the first one is the hardest.good luck.

I wouldn't even attempt salmon/trout without a sonar. You need to find the fish then start fishing. Krawler offered you a wealth of knowledge. I relied on his and others posts when I first started trolling the "Bay" Personally I don't start fishing the hole until August. If you can make it out in front and to the west of Awenda Prov. park I would start there to pop your cherry.
It took me a few outings and gallons of fuel before I was finding success. Put your time in and you will figure it out. Sonar will be key.
