I went out trolling walleyes.
I decided to drag some Rippling Red Fins.
I was using 8lb test on a ultra light rod.
After 30 mins or so I was pretty relaxed and not really paying attention. Suddenly one of my rods doubled over like I snagged bottom except the drag was screaming. I picked up the rod and another huge long run ensued. I got the fish to turn and it broke water WAY off in the distance. Many tense moments later I got it closer and it took another huge run under my other line I was trolling. The fish threw a massive fit at the surface rolling and flipping splashing everywhere. Somehow, with luck, the fish came back under the other line. It made a few more runs and several more jumps but finally it came to the net. The hook fell out in the net like it had never been hooked.
She was 25.5” about 5-5.5 lbs. By no many my biggest but such a rarity on this small lake.

After a quick pic she was released for someone else to enjoy or for me to catch again when she’s even bigger.

Nope. Lol. Guess I can’t get away from Rainbows but I can avoid walleyes no problem. 😂

Very nice, does it happen to be a chain of small lakes? Lots of stocking around my area… some locals stock their own lakes too, off the books, that results in many escapees.

This is an instance where stocking from a lake above the one I am on has resulted in some Rainbows travelling down to this lake. I hear of a few caught in the winter every year but never ever during open water. It was a shock and a treat for sure.
