a buddy is up there now, and said its bad... not usually bad on the water due to such a big body of water, but so far it hasnt been great for bugs.

havent heard much about fishing , we head up this weekend.. all i need to know is water temperature.
if anyone was on water and can pass that information on thatd be great .

i am aware of websites, but dont trust them to be 100% accurate.

I live here, don't stop moving the boat and you will survive. Stop for even a few minutes and those %&*(#$ were all over you. Blackflies I believe with some sqitters mixed in for fun.

This was just a little ways North of NB, in town it seems to be fine for now fingers crossed.

Water temp in a bigger lake around the area was between 60-62 on Monday but I do not know the temp of Nip.

People are swimming in Nip so it must be warm or else they crazy.

The weather buoy out off cross point says it is 16C. That is a measured value.

We are in Calendar Bay right now.
We haven't really noticed the bugs too much.
A few mosquitos.
Water temp was 62 today.

Mosquitoes were out pretty good on the west arm yesterday. Gone by dusk, too cold.
They'll be out full force when it warms up. Black flies are around. Light up a smoke and they go away

Is the water temp significantly warmer than years past around this time? Seems very warm for end of May.

I live along the South shore and have been out everyday since the opener. I haven’t even noticed the bugs while out on the lake. The water temperature yesterday was approx 59 deg. And btw - the fish are biting!

QUOTE (Gino3109 @ May 25, 2022 - 06:31 am)
Is the water temp significantly warmer than years past around this time?  Seems very warm for end of May.

We had a somewhat early ice-out and then almost a week of unseasonable heat. Water's not as high as it normally is, either.
I'd say the lake's about a week to 10 days ahead of schedule. Dragonflies are starting already.
Mayflies show at our end about June 10-15th. They could be out next weekend.

Black flies aren't done yet.

Shadfly hatch on the weekend on the west arm. They're a week early.

I was just informed by one of the owners at Tama Kwa that the bugs are no worse than previous tears, but are at their worse at dusk.

Nothing crazy on Sat. Lots of shadfly casings on the water though, those fish are well fed lol.
