Had a buddy come up for a visit, wanted to hit the water. Not a die-hard fisherman, but likes getting out regardless of what we target or whether he catches anything at all …. Pretty slow afternoon, I worked for 2 keeper walleye and a little one I released. after several snags and re-ties we were about to pack it in. Buddy didn’t feel like re-tying again, so just grabs the other rod he brought, a 5ft ultralight. In no time, he hooks into a beauty and his rod is wrapped in a semi circle. Handle pointed skyward, and rod tip straight down in the water. Big smiles after that one hit the net.

After a couple hours, I had only pulled in two different messes of someone’s copper line that must have broken off and was laying on bottom.
Got a little bored and went near shore to see about smallies….
First cast…. Fish on

I rarely target bass, so for me that’s a decent one

Today, we went for some specks and lakers way back on lakes that are behind the back lakes. The girls were really slow poking, getting breakfast and packing gear and getting ready this morning. I was almost to the point of callin it a day and not going. Left home at 11, and fishing by 1:00pm. Start out trying for brookies, and right away my daughter says ‘fish on’. It’s a pretty small one, maybe 11”, and we let it go. Hey, at least something right, after 1pm in July. Hard to get good pics when you don’t keep them, they’re slippery and thrash around constantly.

Isn't it always the case that someone with not quite the right gear and doesn't fish often catch the big fish of the day....that's usually my wife in my case.
Pretty decent bass for anyone.

15 minutes later, we’re travelling pretty quick in the wind, and my rod warps back…stuck?…check fish finder… no, we’re in 30 feet …no way… gotta be a fish

Our speed made it feel bigger, but was a respectable and thick 17 inches

Keeper with bright red flesh

We tried going deep with steel line for lakers after this one, and ended up skunked on that deal. Marked some but not hitting today.

This was an after-work spur of the moment trip last week to a new lake I’ve never been on before. We trolled around for a couple hours, marking the odd one here or there, no real distinct hot spots. Definitely a nice lake, not a ton of cottages, and I’ll go back and give it a go another time or two for sure. Just about 9:00 pm, I get a good hard strike, and figure I’m into a 5 or 6 lb fish…450 feet of steel line out. Hand the rod to my girlfriend and let her fight the battle. As it turns out, it was just a smaller one 2.5 ish, hooked on top of the back. Must have been swimming along with or following my spoon, and got a little too close when I gave it a snap. Evidently, lakers don’t cut through the water too efficiently when being dragged in like this. They plow a bit. Girlfriends arms got a workout anyhow. This one went back to grow up and we’ll get it again when it actually weighs 6lb.

You’ve been busy!! Good looking walleyes and that’s a nice bass even if you fish for them constantly.
Nice looking trout as well….. that speckle is a solid fish.
Great adventures.
Thanks for sharing
