Gaspe, Atlantic Ocean

Not a nothern lake report...
Just reached our camp ground near Gaspe. On the way here visited Forillon National Park today. Tried ocean fishing there for the first time and was able to catch my first mackerel on the 3rd cast. Then many more in the next hour. My younger son landed few after I set the hook and loved it.

Very nice fish and a beautiful picture of the point. I had just said on another post that I loved ocean fishing. If you were in a boat and went south of there you would be at my grandfathers place in NB in not too long at all. Enjoy your holiday RM looks great out there.

Yes, NB is close. I am without the boat. Tried today the bay nearby, but without luck so far.

Thank you, mamona and fishnhunt. Having a great time. It was the first day without driving, just relaxing and fishing. Hopefully can try few more spots and catch a striped bass in the remaining days.

Hard to tell from the picture, but that looks like mid tide. High tide is the best time to catch fish out there. See if you can find a pier or something similar. The bay will be good as well for fish. My favourite bait was digging clams out of the sand at low tide. Take them out of the shell, put them on the hook and jig from a boat or pier. You can also buy sand eels dead or alive, 6 inches long on a 3 hook and 1 ounce weight rig, just cast it out far and that's it. That catches sea bass and lots of other fish right off the beach. Again at high tide, good luck. The locals can tell you where to fish if there is a bait store near you. If you liked those mackerel, just keep fishing for them. You might even hook into a huge fish that is chasing the mackerel. Have fun.

Mackerel is great...lots of omega-3s for you. I find the best way to cook them is grilled over coals...and cooked well beyond what you would do for other fish. Get a nice charred, oil-dripping, browned colour to the meat and it will taste amazing. Lemon juice on them afterwards...

Did not fish much, but tried again the bay the last evening and morning at the camp.
Had 5 sea bass on hook during the evening, landed two. The fifth one took my lure that is on the photo.
