Phil and I keep "seniors hours", so it was just after 8AM when we were on the water and fishing.
Perfect day, little or no wind, sunny and not too hot. Not many people out there.
I haven't fished Meaford in the last 15 years, so it was a case of where do we go. Yesterday I looked at my paper charts of Nottawsaga Bay and there is deep basin that comes into Meaford Bay. I thought, lets start out working the South shoulder of the basin and if we don't mark much, then work the basin. We did that and didn't mark very much at all. At times we were over 200+ fow. We got to the North side of the basin and starting working in a NE direction over 145fow and keeping South of the Tank Range Markers.
Found some bait and my rod fired but nothing there. Kept heading NE and picked up a 6lb boot (laker). Turned and worked back down towards Meaford keeping around the 145 fow depth and had another knock off. The fish and the knockoffs were all on one of my large Luhr Jensen Shoehorn spoons, this one green/silver. I stuck with the LJ spoon most of the day, but did try a couple of Freedom Herring cut baits but no action.
Grampa--thanks for the PM re green/silver!
Phil tried lots of different spoons, but no action.
We were off the water by 2PM and never saw any other fishermen to compare notes.
Anyways, good day to be out and abck on the water for 2022.
Only saw 2 or 3 suspended marks all day that could have been salmon.
Here is a picture of the boot. There was no fight in it at all. I just pumped it up from 115ft down and it came straight to the boat and into the net.

I should have added--$10.00 to launch and park at Meaford. Collingwood go **** yourself!
