Phil and I keep "seniors hours", so it was just after 8AM when we were on the water and fishing.

Perfect day, little or no wind, sunny and not too hot. Not many people out there.

I haven't fished Meaford in the last 15 years, so it was a case of where do we go. Yesterday I looked at my paper charts of Nottawsaga Bay and there is deep basin that comes into Meaford Bay. I thought, lets start out working the South shoulder of the basin and if we don't mark much, then work the basin. We did that and didn't mark very much at all. At times we were over 200+ fow. We got to the North side of the basin and starting working in a NE direction over 145fow and keeping South of the Tank Range Markers.

Found some bait and my rod fired but nothing there. Kept heading NE and picked up a 6lb boot (laker). Turned and worked back down towards Meaford keeping around the 145 fow depth and had another knock off. The fish and the knockoffs were all on one of my large Luhr Jensen Shoehorn spoons, this one green/silver. I stuck with the LJ spoon most of the day, but did try a couple of Freedom Herring cut baits but no action.

Grampa--thanks for the PM re green/silver!

Phil tried lots of different spoons, but no action.

We were off the water by 2PM and never saw any other fishermen to compare notes.

Anyways, good day to be out and abck on the water for 2022.

Only saw 2 or 3 suspended marks all day that could have been salmon.

Here is a picture of the boot. There was no fight in it at all. I just pumped it up from 115ft down and it came straight to the boat and into the net.

I should have added--$10.00 to launch and park at Meaford. Collingwood go **** yourself!

well Ralph not a lot of action but sounds like it was a great day anyway. Something about the 1st time out in the year makes it even better

Its been very slow here this spring and start of summer. I am in a trailer park right on the bay, just south of the pump house. We launch from the park, next time over try up around Cape Rich and the pump house.

Nice day to be out on the water, and nice fish. I have not fished up there in a boat since I was a kid, 50 years ago.

Great first outing of the season..

I would say it's a success! Fish in the boat and some action

Yes lakers sometimes don't fight. Not sure why, but I have caught walleye that did the same, boots.. LOL

Glad you made it out and thanks for the report. Great read..

Good report and glad you found an alternative to Collingwood. One laker still makes for a good day

Ken

Thanks for the input.

I'm not overly familiar with the area up there and I think I have determined that Cape Rich is at the entrance to Owen Sound Bay. I have no idea where the pump house is?

When I do a Google search all I can find is the old pump house in Meaford has been converted into the local museum?
