Had a chance to get out yesterday for a few hours after work. Started out in 80 fow and worked our way to 200. Marked lots of bait balls but no fish chasing them. After trolling around in 180 with nothing happening we decide to start making our way back, we stared get hits in 160, hooked on a couple bows, continued to troll shallower and started hitting on some shakers in 120 finally hooked up on a king. Got a quick weight and sent it back in. Just shy of 21 lbs. The bows all came on meat rigs and the King on a spoon.

ya.had to cancel yesterday moring cause of the rain, but the lake was dead flat, but foggy at 9 am

I would have gone, I don;t mind getting a bit wet and the hartop helps for sure, but it did change later on

good to see the bite was still decent

Was wierd one, it was pretty choppy on the way out, then the lake laid right down, then got choppy again, then on the way off it calmed gown again. Made it hard to gauge a good trolling speed as the fish hawk wasn't working, tries to gauge it on how much swing we had on the rigger cable.

Nice big fish. Do all you guys that fish the big lakes prefer to have the surface like glass or do you prefer some waves. The reason I ask is I like 15 kmph during the day for my type of fishing. But at night I want it like glass and no sound at all so I can hear the walleye and crappie picking off the bugs and minnows on the surface. Two totally different aspects of fishing, I was just curious if you deep water guys like waves since your bait is 100 feet below the surface.

I myself like a glassy lake. I don't have a nice deep boat like some charter boats, so when your trying to set your rods and fight fish and net them when your being bounced around or even riding rollers, it's not easy. As for weather or not the fish bite better on a glass like surface or with chop, in my experience doesn't seem to matter. We've had good days and bad days in either condition. I'm sure there are a lot more experienced fisherman on here that can give a better answer than this though.

Thank you, I don't fish out on the big lakes. Have not even been to my spots on Balsam and Sturgeon in a month. I was just curious as to what people prefer on big water.

I’m very doubtful if anyone will say they like choppy water…. It is uncomfortable at first but for me the main problem is that it is very hard to control the boat up wind or side wind, especially if you are fishing alone and have to manage everything by yourself.
Even with wind about 10 knots you cannot leave the tiller or steering wheel for a few seconds without turning the boat in an unwanted direction if driving not down wind…. The bigger the boat is better of course…
For me this is the main problem trolling if it’s not entirely calm. I have a very light boat, even light wind and waves turn it instantly without control…
