I was there last night and fished until dark. Marked a pile of fish in 70-90 feet of water west near cement plant. Got one just shy of 20 pounds. Wish I could join you…..a very generous offer. Good luck.

I held off as no one else could go. I consider lake O dangerous alone. I did go last weekend on Sunday and got WAY to many small ones and one ok bow.

Well, I usually go alone or with my wife who is rather a burden than a helper… But I check the weather forecast very well before I go… I think, in modern, quite precise forecasts it is reasonably safe to go if you know what you are doing… Anyway, thanks for your report… I hope I won't miss any opportunity like that in the future.

Weather forecasts aren’t the issue for me going alone. Managing a small boat while fishing a fish can be super tricky. If the water is busy like it is on a weekend I am not risking an accident fighting a fish and driving a boat. With the morons I see on the water I always want an extra set of eyes.
A week ago I watched a boat with only two guys on it with no one looking forwards. This was in super thick rigging traffic. The captain stared backwards until they turned and ran over my gear. The guy said he was sorry but my point is I am not worried about what I do but what everyone else does on a busy weekend.

Disco, I could agree more, too many people don't pay attention to what they are doing. Twice this year I have had to yell at other boats to get them to look forward. See it all the time guys all looking at the back of the boat and not watching forward. As far as accurate weather forecast, I haven't seen one yet.

Over the years, I have been pretty independent and would go out by myself when I was comfortable with the weather forecast. Always wore my motor lanyard tether when out alone.
Anyways I turned 80 in April and I promised my wife, no more solo trips! At that age you never know what can happen.

To be honest I think it is just a common stereotype that people always repeat but in fact the weather forecast is pretty good generally…I noticed that it became a bit worse for the last two years… They say Covid-19 affects it (less staff and aircrafts in the air which collect the data)... Anyway, it is not perfect and cannot be perfect but quite reliable. I usually check the wind a day before I go… There are at least three free websites for that… I go only if for any given time the wind is not stronger than 10-12km/h… And even if they screwed up a bit it’s still manageable and sure safe…

I'm with you Mark
I only go if the winds are 15kph or less and I have 4 different wind/weather forecast sites I check.
They are never identical, but you can usually see the trend.

I got to agree... a few us us dicuss weather quite often particularily winds and cpnclude that
the last 3 years forecasts are less reliable even though there are more apps to look over
there have been numerous times when the wind forecast has been absolutely wrong and I attribute that to the great lakes can create their own winds at different times of the year
you can pretty well bank on sw winds when temps go to 26 plus and north winds next day if the temp has a high of 19-22 or so.
today is a good example of that 30 right now and building sw winds

I’m pretty sure it is the case but I also believe that the weather folk are well aware of that and it should be included in their calculations… For me, I only go if it’s calm for the entire day and better some time before and some time after. This way it’s almost guaranteed that you will be fine. But I’m not going to believe the example I just found… Three hours difference and the wind is supposed to change from 30 km/h to 13 and then back to 30… It may be or may not… At the end it all comes to your tolerance and your boat… I have a 16’ utility boat with 20HP. And I go some 3-5miles from the shore… I have to be sure I can manage it back…
