Just bought a 16 foot legend exterminator and it’s my first motorized boat( used row boat lol) I’m having trouble finding a lake to take my little guy out to do some lake trout jigging. I’ve been to lake joe for ice fishing but that’s the lake I was thinking about but I thought it was closed in summer because of sanctuary? Any lake recommendations is greatly appreciated…..Thanks Kevin G….

Friend of mine has a cottage on Joe and has been talking the the MNR lately as they are doing their net testing. They are hinting about closing Joe to winter ice fishing

That would be a shame. A slot size would make more sense…. Has been the practice for most other natural lake trout lakes. If they do it for Joseph, the other two muskoka lakes should be included too otherwise they will get decimated too. Slot and limit to 1 fish maybe…. Barbless hooks, etc. closing it seems like a major move. Some lakes around my area have been closed for ice fishing to protect the populations, but they had first imposed slots, guess the slots weren’t working or nobody follows them.

I fish out of foots bay in the winter. Fish on says it’s sanctuary if I’m reading it right. I’ll have to go up higher
You must've read it wrong. The best way to find launches as mentioned is to go on fish online and click map options and then fishing access points. You mentioned taking the little guy, Summertime jigging of lake trout is really not a great choice for kids unless you're already dialed in. It can certainly be done but, don't expect the same kind of action you might find in winter.

Lake trout closes almost everywhere at the end of September. Whitefish can be good at end of August into September up until spawn around October November, and then post spawn they’re good if you can find em first ice.
