My father and son and I took an evening trip last night.
My son got his first King last night on his last day of being 8. Today is his birthday. I was kidding with him saying this is either 364 days late for his 8th birthday or a day early for his 9th.
Longshank a few years ago gave a tip about kids fighting fish in the rod holder. I did learn but I was slow. Lol.
My sons first King he fought in my lap with me assisting holding the rod. The fish was close to being landed and jumped 40’ from the back of the boat and came off. The second King I stuck that rod in the rod holder and said keep it tight. He worked that reel the whole way and even with the fish crossing two lines we managed to get it into the boat.
After that we hooked some more fish but we didn’t even care really 😂.

Disco, is it an unusual year to get too many small salmons? Seems like everybody is getting them a lot...

There are always a ton of shakers around.

The lake always has all year classes of fish if the lake is healthy.

Thanks! I thought if they (small and big ones) feed separately, then may be small ones have moved to the area where I fish. Last time I got two littles almost in the same spot at the same time. So I moved some 2-3 miles away and got a bigger one.
Generally, you would say that if there is small salmon that would mean there is bait around and it’s good to stay here or…?

They mix in size just as often as they don’t mix in size.
Some days I find big Kings deep and the small ones shallow.

I will say the small ones I find out of temp way more often than the big matures.

Nice job! My son still struggles bringing a whitefish in! He just turned 6. I thing we will go for herring this weekend, they’re a little easier to bring up. Great memories.
