A few years back I went to s. lake and stumbled into big bull-gills (as they are called), they were anywhere from 12-16 in. and were down in 60ft of water. it was incredible - the fight, and table fare can't be beat. It was about this time of year till early the first week of october. sorry they won't let me mention the name of the lake. Anybody starting to get big blue gills - I know Canadians don't fish for them but, we americans are more than happy to take them off your hands.

Do you mean bluegill like this picture. Do you have a picture of a big one you caught. I have never heard of a bluegill that big in Canada or the U.S.A.

I haven't seen or heard of one in Ontario, but I've watched a couple of shows in Michigan where they were catching what they called Magnum Gills. Damned things were almost as big as a frisbee!!

Cool video Lionel. I looked up record bluegill in Ontario the record is 11 inches, and in the U.S.A. it's 15 inches. Biggest I have ever caught was like 9 inches. I catch them at night on crank baits fishing for crappie and walleye.

...yes seeing is believing
There was no skepticism in my comments, if you caught a 16 inch bluegill, that's amazing. I simply wanted to see a picture of a 16 inch bluegill. That is why I asked to see a picture. I have the unofficial record for the biggest crappie ever caught in the Kawarthas....17.5 inches and 2.6 pounds. If someone asks to see the picture I show them. Hopefully your pictures load so you can post a picture of a 16 inch bluegill. By the way if you have a picture of a 16 inch bluegill, you will be the unofficial world record holder of said species.

I didn't post the pictures to be funny, I asked if you meant bluegill as a species. Your title said BULL BLUE GILLS...never heard of that before.

Used to get the bulls in Percy Boom, but it has been fished out over the last 10-15years, and the crappie have all but disappeared there. We would get them when they run the Locks in the spring and the biggest ones were maybe 10”, but thick with a Neanderthal looking brow. The meat was sweet like sugar in the spring. Pulling up from 60’ would be a blast!
