100% a Chinook. Most the gums are black and the tiny bit of white is probably because it been dead I a cooler for a while. The tail is fully spotted and the anal fin is 100% Chinook.
The herring/Cisco are easily distinguishable as their my faces forward. White fish have a pronounced upper lip and it makes their mouth turned down.

Hey back many years ago there were some huge whities in Gb , my buddy Dennis caught a 14 lb whitie in the spring off Meaford harbor and I got one over 11 the following week , blame seems to go to commercial netting but who knows , could be lack of forage or spawning habits , our whities now run 2-5 lbs but still great eating fresh or smoked ..they are still there..
I remember maybe 20+ years ago, you could pound the whities at the mouth of the rivers along Gbay. They would gather and eat the roe from rainbows etc. (At least that's what I would catch them on.)
I don't think they gather in those numbers any more. I could also never understand the daily limit of 25 fish. I don't think I ever kept more than 1 or 2 fish (if I kept any at all).
It was actually a lot of fun catching rainbows and whities in shallow water.

That whitefish 25 fish limit per day is almost a thing of the past in Ontario. Generally it's now 12 fish per day in Ontario. There are some exceptions though with lower and higher limits but they are rare.

This is just for any new anglers out there that might not know about, or be confused about how many fish you can keep if you choose to do so. I will use crappie for my example, and use only the sport fishing licence limit. In zone 14 and in " MOST " of the other zones, the limit for crappie is 30 fish. That does not mean I can catch 30 fish everyday and fill up my freezer for winter. When the regulations state the limit is 30 fish that means 30 fish only in my possession. That means if I have 30 in my freezer already I can't bring any more home. If I have 15 in my freezer I can bring 15 home. But at no time may I have more than 30 fish in my possession. And possession means anywhere I put those fish I kept to eat. Again this post was just for any new anglers. I am sure the members would agree that to a new angler some of the regulations can be confusing. Just in case there is a question out there about the regulations, read them all first. There is quite a bit to read but I recommend reading all the way through. That should answer your questions that you may have. Fishing regulations are there to protect the life of the fish. Just like boating regulations are there to protect you and others on the water.

crapeeeman you are confusing daily catch limits and possession limits. They are not always the same especially if the fish are caught in different zones. An other example is perch from lake Simcoe where the possession limit is 100 but the daily limit is 50(sports fishing license).

I knew I should have used crappie, that would have been a better example. LOL. Thanks for the heads up. I was not confused, just forgot about the provincial possession limit. I should have been sleeping instead of writing at that hour the other night. That just proves what I said about reading all the regulations. LOL. I edited my previous post and changed it to crappie to make more sense because crappie limit is 30 in " MOST " zones. I guess I should also add every fish and zone is a little different so don't forget to look up the regulations so you don't have too many fish. Thanks again Woodsman for catching my screw up.
