I have another salmon for identification, now from GB. It seems to me like coho because of whitish gums but unlike the previous catch from LO this fish had very firm scales which was hard to clean from the skin.

Also, a while ago I got some whitefish or cisco… Supposed to be easy to distinguish but still… To me it looks like a whitefish.. mostly because of the relatively big size for cisco (800 gr each). But my brother said it’s cisco…

Thanks, Nick! I was told that whitefish in GB are relatively smaller than those in Simcoe…. Probably the guy who told me that also confused them with cisco.. Years ago I got two cisco from Simcoe. Those were very different from whitefish, with a more elongated and skimpy body and clearly up-look mouth.

I'd agree with Nick on both ID's.
It definitely looks like a superior over bite leading me to beleive it's a herring.
The salmon looks like a chinny - black mouth, spots, long anal fin.
I don't fish salmon on Gbay much anymore, so I don't even know if there's much of a population of coho. There also used to be a nice population of pinks.

I got several chinooks on LO with distinguishable black mouths so this one didn't look black enough for me… As for coho in GB… you are probably right… I rarely get more than one salmon for the outing (a few hours trolling in the morning and then evening) in the area where we go, most often rainbows…

yup; it,s a chinook , cohos generally have have only upper half of tail with spots , and yes to a herring .. both nice fish ..
Hey back many years ago there were some huge whities in Gb , my buddy Dennis caught a 14 lb whitie in the spring off Meaford harbor and I got one over 11 the following week , blame seems to go to commercial netting but who knows , could be lack of forage or spawning habits , our whities now run 2-5 lbs but still great eating fresh or smoked ..they are still there..
