Well it’s been a minute since getting around to actually sit down and type out the updates since March!
I was up in March with a buddy of mine for an ice fishing session. Ice fishing in March almost wanted to make me give up the struggle bus of ice fishing late January and February! Beautiful weather and it was definitely a multi species 4 days of fishing. Walleye, Pike, and Perch on the first evening after a 8 hour drive. The next day was full of tiny lakers with nonstop action, 3rd day was filled with a bunch of Splake, and the 4th day was Brookies to complete an amazing trip.
End of June it was time to pull in some docks. 3 hour round trip to pick up premade docks, 40 min up the logging road by truck, and then another 2km in to camp behind the side by side. Thankful for hard working farm kids and a wife with a “we’re doing this” attitude! I wanted to get the docks in as a priority for the kids to have a place to hang out while the interior of the cabin still gets finished.
My son and I took off to fish a few lakes we fished in the winter months to get an idea of the structure of the lakes with out drilling holes. First lake was a bust and a big fat skunk. 2nd lake 2 beautiful Brookies we’re caught. This made up from a previous skunk during the winter months and reassured us that in fact there are fish in the lake!
We spent the entire week at camp. Colman stove, cooler, and air mattress for sleeping on.
July. Spent a week up in the north with my two boys for mostly field work at the farm that we own in the north but did manage to get the first load of pine boards in for the interior. 5km an hour up the logging road so we didn’t loose boards on the washouts! Flat tire on the side by side knocking the sidewall with a rock because of the weight of the pine pulling it into camp. We lived the last few days 15 min at a time as that’s all we could get out of a filled up tire. Thankful for the 12 volt air compressor that stayed plugged in for the next few days to get us in and out of camp. Lessened learned and spare tire and rim is now on the side by side!
August. Just the dream team. The husband and wife show for a week with out kids. A time to reconnect as a couple and hang up the first load of pine boards. First time away with out children in 5 years. We do have a severely autistic daughter so getting away as a couple just doesn’t happen. It was a great week other than my wife always grabbing the nail gun just as I was about to use it!
That’s the recap on our end. Back up in September to bring in another load of pine to tackle the loft, and ceilings to get the interior walls buttoned up before the snow flies.
