I wanted to thank everyone for their comments and helpful nature on this forum. We had a fun season on Lake Ontario, and I wish it wouldn't end so quickly.

Great pictures. I don't fish for salmon so I do not know anything about it. Why do you stop fishing for them now? Just curious...... not looking to get into salmon fishing ever, the family does not eat salmon.

Lots of folk stop after the derby’s are done. Most of the guide boats stop in a few weeks also. Me I stopped in November 2 years ago and was still catching fish.

You can continue to fish them all year long, but the 4th years, which are the largest ones, are typically done by the end of Sept, depending on the year. Sometimes they go up the river and spawn/die in early sept, sometimes not until late.
The Great Salmon Derby ended on August 27, but I kept it there for a week longer to continue to fish. I pulled it now and it's back at Friday Harbour on Simcoe ready for the last few weeks of laker fishing. I love Salmon, but I miss Laker fishing too...
Plus, Simcoe is so much more relaxing than Lake Ontario Salmon fishing. Salmon fishing is tiring and you're consistently moving and checking gear. Laker jigging you sit back and relax

Thank you for the replies, I figured you might be targeting different fish on other lakes, but was not sure. My favourite fishing season starts this week, from now until the reels start freezing up at night in mid November. Walleye, crappie and bass. I just hope I can fish more then I did this summer. I had great luck every night I got out, just wasn't out enough. It's never enough really. I could never fish too much. I wish I lived on a house boat with a rod holder on each corner. LOL.

QUOTE (Longshank @ Sep 21, 2022 - 09:42 pm)
nice pics
It's never over for lake O and still plenty of tourneys going on
they are shorter.....1-3 days but a ton of fun for those loving derbies
the action right now for huge steelhead is bar none and plenty of hard fighting 3 year olds make for great days on the water
Longshank, you're making me miss it already! Stop that!
I hang up the season early so I can focus on house projects, study new certs for work, travel for work, etc. Plus, I just don't like the cold at all! Anything under 22c and over 15km winds, it's not a fun day
I hope you have lots of great days ahead this season still. I'll be following your threads/pics
