Got out for a few trip this summer to Lake Erie when the winds were predicted to be calm. Lake Erie calm is not so calm, only one day where you could call it calm and waves were not a factor.

The fishing was great for the most part and the action was hot. Some double headers and lines tangled to add to the circus show. Got into some nice size walleyes, a couple of 23” , a 24 and longest was 25” but not as thick as the others. Did not have scales but pretty sure I got my personal best using the length/girth formula for walleye. Erie walleye are usually thick. We also got our share of the good eater size in the 17-19” size. Some days had a 4 line spread and other days 2 lines was all you needed to get your limit. A few fish caught on spoons, including the only rainbow caught. But most of the damage came from body baits. Stay safe out there and always keep an eye on the conditions.

This day we got our limit in less than 3 hours with 2 lines out. Biggest was almost 4, and some good eaters

That's quite a mess of fillets there!!

And you're right about the conditions. When I was down there last fall, winds were forecasted to be 5-10mph, but the anemometer at the hotel had gusts up to 25mph. I drove down to the ramp anyway, but decided not to put in because of the 3' waves (onshore winds). Next day was a lot better with only 1' rollers and managed to catch a good bunch of smallies on topwater. I like that lake, except for the wild waves.

Nice report. I've been meaning to get down to Erie for some walleye fishing... where would you recommend, and what depth?

Beautiful fish and lots of them. Very nice pictures as well. My uncle Mike fishes out of Port Stanley with some of his friends, but I have not fished Erie since I was a boy. My walleye fall fishing starts in a few days on Balsam and Sturgeon. Crappie and bass as well. Did you here that Lionel!!!! we are going fishing soon, I will send you a message. We can hit up Balsam for some monster fish.

You can catch them anywhere on Erie mostly 40' or deeper. Anywhere between Port Burwell and Port Glasgow, fishing in 55-65 fow is stupid easy right now and likely good for a few more weeks.
Lures down around 40' and you will box your limit in no time

yeah seems like the forecasts are almost always wrong on Erie. I never got out of Erieau this year, did a couple trips out of Leamington. Seems the fish are bigger your way, we have to do a lot of culling to get them over 16".Thanks for sharing.

I haven’t fished Erie a whole lot until this year. Will definitely make the trip more often. I hear Bass and perch fishing is also very good, but have yet to target them.
