I want to install a GPS on my snowmobile this year to help me get to "my spots" on the lake. I also want to use it on the trails. Anybody have any idea of what I should go with? Wondering what other people use.

I have had good success using my phone with the navionics app...RAM handlebar map and i'm good to go. I also have the BRMB app on my phone to help me navigate snowmobile trails and back lakes. Never had issues with the phone freezing.

I don't go to any trails, but for lake riding I'm using my Lowrance 4" Fish Finder with Navionics lakes map in it, installed quick release boat mount on snowmobile dashboard.

I use my phone with the OFSC trail maps on my sled while trail riding and Ive got a Garmin 75SV mounted to the bars when I fish. The Garmin is great with the Active Captain app, My graphs all share waypoints, so if I find a good spot in the boat I can revisit on the ice.

I do the same thing. It works great. I also have a Map Tracks card that picks up the old logging roads when I'm up north. Not sure if they would pick up the OFSC trails though.

Can’t help you with your snowmobile setup but I have a Garmin Montana 650 mounted on my ATV which I use for ice fishing. When the GPS is mounted in the holder it is powered by the bike when running. I’ve not had any problem with the cold effecting the GPS. The min temperature specs on the 650 is -15c, 5f. Read a review where it was OK in -27c, -16f temps. The photos show how its mounted to the ATV.

I don't have a snow machine. I have a good Garmin GPS from a few years ago that I rarely use. I find that the Topo app on my phone does the job in most situations.
If I have forgotten my phone I try to use the traditional method illustrated in the attached pic

I have a garmin maps78 i believe that I use as it has a chip with all the lakes. I have it mounted with a RAM mount to the handlebars of my quad. The phone apps to they need cell service or do they use the gps for the maps. If the phone app gets all the data from the gps then this would be a lot cheaper way to go, but if you need cell service then not so go in middle of lake or up north away from major hwy
