So with many miles of the Saugeen and tributaries now closed for trout, I'm wondering if it is still legal to fish bass and pike. I tottally thought it would be fine, but had a conversation with another angler who was convinced that being the Saugeen is considered a trout stream, that once trout season closed at the end of september you could no longer fish it for other fish with open seasons still. Interested in your thoughts.

instead of asking for others' opinions you should be reading the regs. that is the only way to know for sure as everyone will have thoughts but, in the end, it is the regs that count

This really makes zero sense, as there is the south saugeen, north saugeen, beatty saugeen. Many sections have no significant populations of trout, but lots of bass and pike. Just lazy government regs, just shut it down the river completely instead of putting the efford into managing the resource properly. Pay for a licence and then have fishing oportunities shutdown prematurely. I will send an e-mail but don't expect much of a response.

Every sportfish in Grey and Bruce counties inland rivers/streams closes Sept 30th with trout. Guessing it's so people can't claim they are fishing for pike while throwing spinners for bows.

All the saugeens join together before walkerton and steelhead make there way as far as the dam outside hanover the reasons for the sanctuary is because they stocked rainbows into the beatty and south saugeen years ago hoping for some to make there way back up to spawn we are lucky enough to have alot of native trout and some steelhead in our rivers bass and pike are currently open in the saugeen anywhere but grey and bruce county which is closed to all fishing from September 30 until next April
