What a windy and miserable day for weather…. Brisk cold winds, snow, rain, more wind…. Man I must love fishing. Headed out for noon for one last round of Herring for Thanksgiving…. Found them exactly where I left them. Spent two hours, must have had 20 aggressive chases through the entire water column without any bite. Managed 6 herring in the boat plus 2 small lakers released. Man were the fish ever curious today… they would always stop a foot short of biting, but follow the lure like they were just playing with me. Marked fish just about the whole time, often 2-3 at a time. Although it was miserable, I enjoyed myself. My father will be smoking the herring and Ill post an update of the finished product for part four. Off the water by 2pm.

Nice haul, enjoy smokers! How deep did you find them and were they close to the bottom?
Fished 50fow off a shelf, fish were swimming through all over. I’d drop my lure to bottom and if there were no fish immediately on the lure, I’d crank up really fast to about 20ft under tthe boat, and a school would almost always appear on my lure right away. Lots of up and down, cat and mouse. They were literally all over the water column. Suspended schools were always moving through a little quicker than the bottom schools, and seems a little more willing to smash.

Fishing in bad weather is so satisfying when you bring home a good catch. Maybe some hot coffee or soup after to warm up with. Great job on getting out there when the weather was tough. Fish or no fish, bad weather fishing is fulfilling. Stay safe out there.
