Went to lake Couchiching yesterday with two buddies to enjoy the beautiful sunny fall day on the water.
Left town late and were on the ramp in Orillia at around 1.30 pm. A few trailers on the parking lot already. Started fishing for pike at around 2 pm and finished just after sunset.
The weather was a bit too sunny and calm for pike fishing and they were kinda finicky most of the afternoon, often nibbling at the lures and not smashing them hard as they can.
Nevertheless we caught about dozen pikes with three decent ones in the 6-8 lb range and also couple of bass as well.
Missed and lost a few fish as well .
Tried various lures: vibs, smaller spinnerbaits retrieved slowly close to bottom, jerks, cranks and swimbaits.
Pike were reacting to different lures but the trick was not to rush the retrieve and use lots of pauses and stop and go moves around the drop offs near the weeds (9-14 FOW).

Hey JB good to see you back posting some nice fish pictures. Good luck on the rest of your fall fishing. Stay safe.
Thank you, Jamie. I appreciate it. Yes, it's good to be out fishing again as I did not go out often this summer and fall. Wish you to continue having a great fall fishing!

Thank you for your kind words, Flexkk. it sure great to be out fishing after a while.
I am happy that you had a great season this year on Balsam with lots of decent fish caught !
I did not post much for a while but I saw your reports from your fishing trips on Balsam. Well done! You are definitely on the right track in figuring out the spots and fishing patterns there.

Well I used up my holidays in Sept. and Oct. Thats why there was quite a few posts in the last two months. So now might not be able to fish the end of walleye season for the first time in 15 years. Might just drive up for one night of walleye fishing before its over and then come back home. Just hoping the weather will cooperate with one of my days off.

Well, hopefully you are able to manage a few more trips this open water season.
That's quite a season you had this year with lots of quality and quantity of fish caught. I did not post much but was checking your reports. Great job as usual!
