Some new ice this morning on South Bay. The island out in the distance is Beacon Island. Yesterday the ice was just close to shore. Any wind would most likely bust a lot of up.

Bummer, sorry to hear that.
Our trip (Jan 6 to 9) was cancelled. We’re gonna head up and use our own gear in lieu of the luxury accommodations. We are however booked again for what would have been our second bungalow trip for the year… Jan 13 to 16, hopefully the ice conditions improve quick.

Over the last few years we have had so many of our January trips cancelled due to conditions that we now opt to go in February even though the fishing is not as good .

Well even though we didn't get to go with the outfitter, we still made it to Nippising. We stayed at a friend's cabin on the south river. Got up Monday morning, opened up the cabin got some heat going and made base camp. The river was frozen but still some open patches. So travel by machine out to Lake wasn't possible, we trailers the quads and gear to the Bear Creek area where we knew someone that would let us park and had good lake access, set up and pulled out the permanent hut that my buddy had and set up in about 18 feet of water. Had a pop up 6 man jnsulated hut as well to set up. Ice was almost 10 inches and temp was about -7. There were 4 of us fishing and we got our limit of keepers all around the 17 inch range. As the week went on it got colder and had on over night low around -30. We took one day to hit a back lake for some Brookies but got skunked on the fish but still had a great time. The trip into finding the lake was a blast and we had a great time exploring the lake and having a lunch around a fire. We finished the week with a total of 3 burbot, 2 cisco, 3 pearch and around 75 walleye, with a total of 12 keepers, enough for a fish fry and a few to give away to the guys that helped us out up there. We also managed to get the crib and dock built at my Buddies place on the south river. Had a great time up there and came home exhausted. Now back to work for a break.
