This one is a double whammy. Here is the report in one video and the drone footage in another.

There was total coverage as of yesterday but can it hold in the wind? Don't forget to leave a comment in the YouTube comments to be entered into a draw for some Limestone Lures and a Masuta Ice Rod.

I was on the 7th floor of NB city hall to defend a property amendment and looked out over lake Nipissing and it appeared that there was white ice surrounding the Manitous (about the last 3/4 of Nip) and black ice over the rest of the lake.
It appears we're in for some mild weather for a week so I doubt very much there will be any fishing on the first of January.
How the climate has changed in our lifetime???
I put my first shack on Nip in 1989, Boxing Day and pulled it out with my GM half ton. There was 12-14 inches of ice at the lighthouse in Callander.

Let's hope those cold temps will heal what the mild temperatures and wind are doing. I'm going live at 1pm. See you there.

The ice survived the heavy winds and snow. Now hopefully the colder weather starts building on that crust.

I think Nip is freezing normal this year, and my prediction is by Jan 1 the lake will be fishable with huts and bungalos in full operation. I also remember a season in the 80's where there was only 8" of ice in mid January, so I'm just saying every season is different. I remember fishing mid January in pouring rain and the next year snuggling up to the heater in -30 weather. Some years are mild, some years are freezing, I call it weather others call it climate change.
