Wondering if small lakes are firming up? Minus 10 tonight and colder from Thursday on. If anyone wants to let me know it would appreciated. Thx

Nope, mid next week or the weekend of the 17th for first ice. My brookie lakes aren’t even capped. Very late year. Some random shallow lakes had a cap of 1/2” white ice crap. Some of those lakes now open.

Thx

My buddy Al and I could use a bit more tutoring on how to catch specks once they are frozen!

I find it’s hard to get them to bite once they’re frozen…jaws are pretty stiff… they do go well in the freezer though, and make excellent table fare once thawed 🙃

Maybe I should try dangling a participle down the hole to see if they bite!!

Following, would appreciate any updates on ice formation/thickness on small lakes. Hoping to squeeze in a backcountry trout trip before the year ends!

Some smallest shallowest lakes just capped with 1/4” ice then about 3” snow…. So not the best, I’ll be poking around this weekend I can PM some conditions. All big and medium lakes are ice free and 90% of small lakes are also open water.

My car certainly noticed at 5am this morning when I tried to start it. I see even some large lakes capped this morning. Let’s keep the snow away and we may be good for opener on the laker grounds.

Headed over Calabogie way to check a speck lake. It was 3” mostly but some dicey spots with the spud. The bay was weedy so no luck. You were right mykola, needs more time. Hopefully between Christmas & NYE, things will be better.

I'd be extremely happy if I can get onto ice for some ice fishing somewhere up north after Xmas and before the Near year!:-) Perhaps on some small lake...

Snow forecast in my area over the next four days, has been cut by 2/3 now, thank goodness, and next week is looking like all double digit negatives. Bring it on.

The WN is up to it's usual tricks---over forecasting rain and snow
