Went fishing again today, same area but down the shore a bit to where a big tree is down in the water. Caught three pike, and lost one. Had to pack up at lunch to go see my dad he has been in and out of the hospital for almost a year now. Doctors in Brantford and Paris are amazing. Not sure when my dad is going to Heaven, where you don't need a fishing license or an outdoors card to fish ever. Could be six days, could be six weeks, could be six months, they just don't know. He will probably prove them wrong once again and still be here six years from now. Here is a couple pictures. A couple blurry pictures and a couple not too bad. LOL.

Nice pike. Make the best you have with your father while you both can enjoy it. My dad lived on his own till he was 83, got sick took him to the hospital week later he passed. Was perfect really, gave me and family enough time to go north to see him and say our good byes. A lot of others just die suddenly and never have a chance to say good bye.

Sorry to hear about your dad CM, those are some though times for sure.
But, very glad to see you made it to the water on a such nice day. 36" is, I would say, awesome Kawartha lakes pike.
I fished pike in those areas this spring, and it was so much fun. Didn't have much opportunity the rest of the year.
I actually planned to go today, with the idea to troll for some fall muskies, had some luck this time of year before, but something came up and I had to cancel my trip.
Also I was thinking to try some pike in the shalows, I never did that but thought the conditions are good and might be somewhat similar to early spring. Glad you proved my hypothesis right
Not sure if I will make it one more time to open water this year but it was great to see fish you caught. Almost like I was there.

Not to hijack CM’s thread but yes , the pike is biting right now pretty shallow similar to where you would catch them right after spawn We have been doing pretty good with friends catching them on smaller jerks in 5-7 Fow in weeds

Thank you for all the comments and thoughts, as well as the wisdom. As for the pike being shallow, JB is right on it. I was casting into 6 to 7 feet of water, with a very big minnow down about three feet under the surface. Monday the small pike just played and hacked up my big minnows. Tuesday the larger pike were hungry and full of energy, too bad I did not fish all day. Pike love cold water and will be in the shallow water until it turns to ice. Good luck to any of you going out, and stay safe.

Well done Jaime. You had a lot better luck with the pike than I had down south with the largemouth!! I just made it home an hour ago. What a trip coming back!!
Very sorry to hear that you dad's not doing well. Cherish every day that you can with him. Hopefully, when the time comes, it will be peaceful and without suffering. I lost my dad when I was stationed in Italy, so I didn't get the chance to spend time with him toward the end. His b-day would have been just a couple of days ago. He would have been 108. I know that with his health at the time, he would never have made it that far, but one can only wish. I do miss him and wish I could have shared my current fishing stories with him. Stay safe out there my friend.

That must have been very hard on you not having enough time with your father. Thank you for sharing that personal memory. Glad you made it back safe from Florida. That's too bad the fishing was not as good as last year down in the sun.
