Lake Muskoka, What to expect?

I am from the Kawartha region and we do a few winter trips each year up to Nipissing, but this year my kids hockey team is participating in a big pond hockey tournament on Lake Muskoka, in the bay out in front of Boston Pizza, we are staying in the Marriott on the point and we planned to bring our sleds and our pop ups. While the kids are playing we plan to set up near the rinks and maybe do a bit of fishing and make a fun day of it, but when the hockey is over we plan to spend a couple days running and gunning to see what we can find, we also considered using an operator (Prime Time).
A few questions I have for anyone who is familiar with this area is there any open water hazards in that area usually, ie bubblers or creek run offs or currents?
Also what type of depth range is there in and around that area?
Should I be bringing my light weight gear or heavier set ups? I have read that there is some decent Lake Trout reasonable Pike.

Thanks for any help at all, I wish I had a full week to actually put some work in to get on the fish but for those who have a few boys in hockey will understand how dad’s fishing time becomes secondary to hockey. Lol

First off, Marriott is on lake Rosseau, second off, it’s all open water right now, no ice this year. Third; yes lake trout and walleye. Depths out there; that shoreline can be 60ft deep 10 ft from shore and goes down to well over 160ft. Prime time is across the bay from the hotel, and would be a good option for you. Would also be fine fishing literally right after n front of the motel.

Tons of bubblers and narrows between islands with no ice (there no ice at all right now). Not a lake to guess on for your first rodeo out there. If you fish right n front of the hotel you will do fine. The lake has piles of fish. This lake is always a slush pile too, it gets hammered with snow all winter and can easily get stuck out there. Around the points either side of Marriot there are often large pressure heaves and can be extremely hazardous at night especially. If you sled stick to groomed trails.

Probably stick a boat in somewhere for trout opener the ways things are going.

As far as setups go that’s a matter of preference. I like catching 10lb plus lakers on 4-6lb line and light gear.

Mykola is giving you info on Rosseau, as he doesn’t know there is in fact a Marriott at the Gravenhurst wharf, just around the corner from Boston Pizza and the rinks where the pond hockey will be (if ice allows)

To answer questions from original poster, you can fish in the main bay where the hockey will be, decent pike and walleye. Heading out toward the narrows, old fire college on your right - some big pike get caught there. Anywhere before the narrows I think you’ll max out in the low to mid 40’s for depth. If you’re heading to big part of lake, open/dangerous water at the narrows, there was always a trail up, overland and around back into the ice when ive been there. Lots of boathouse bubblers, don’t hug the shoreline.

Once on big part of lake here you can find any depth you want….there’s a million places to go, walleye, pike and lakers. Potential for big fish is there.

I certainly don’t know everything! I had no idea there was another monstrosity of a hotel on Muskoka. Oops. Haha. I should wait til I’m done my first coffee before posting.
