Caught three small chub minnows on a jig and worm
- two at the same time even, on a single hook somehow?

A reasonable 12” of ice (very small lake) mostly solid with some water in between layers.

Nice to get out for sure, and happy to find a bunch more ice than I expected
Not the greatest story either, but figured I’d get things stirring with some nice pics and a bit of a trip report

Nice, and beautiful. Lucky you getting out.

I have not been out on any ice so far this winter. Depressing! Hopefully can find some ice in a week or two, and get out and have some fishing...:-)

Shore is let go in most places I checked yesterday except for two small lakes where the shore managed to hang on. Still very mushy yesterday spud through on one hit most places. I’ll be out there today looking for whitefish as it’s finally cold enough to lock up that slush pile. Now just need to deal with cold front fishing haha.

Shoulda kept those chubs for pike bait.

With any luck I’d like to go catch some herring soon for that purpose 👍🏼

I agree, herring for pike, but I think I'd have put the chub on a set line for brookies. I caught a chub on a spoon one time and gave it to a buddy who was fishing set lines and he got the biggest brooky of the trip on it.

Surprised at how much ice you had. Checked a few lakes up near Pointe au Baril this weekend and found mostly layered crap ice even on smaller lakes. Ended up with some small pike and crappies but couldn't make it to the walleye spots.

I was out yesterday until 1:30, I got skunked, couple other groups were successful from 12-4pm, shallow bite 3-10fow. Specks. Maybe 2” crap ice, 2” slush, then 1-3” black ice. Nice to wet a line. Need to get used cold again.
