South River Resort (on the south shore of Nip) posted an update to their facebook page last night. They are "optimistic" that they will be opening on Jan 16th. They have cancelling the weekend coming Jan 13-15.
They measured the ice, 7" +/- as of yesterday. It was -15C last night here in North Bay and currently -13C @11am so it's making ice right now for sure. The forecast is still up and down though in the coming days but nothing really above 0C.

Report that they wrote says they measured 5" to 7" yesterday a kilometer out..

That is good. I just hope that we are not fishing on 12" of ice in 8 feet of water. That being said. I'd rather be safe than sorry. We have 5 guys in a 6 man bungalow. not sure what that would weigh. I would think we wouldn't be driving vehicles out to the huts.

Just got the email from SSIC, they are pulling the bungalows out as we speak for this weekend. 8-9” of good ice. Unfortunately no holes will be drilled under the huts but we will have outside holes drilled away from the huts. It’s not perfect but it’s still a fun weekend of fishing. Better than a cancelation! Thank you Cara and Garnet! Can’t wait to get up there.

Just touched base with Todd today and he said they have 9" of ice and their huts are on the ice with guests in them. We are also booked in for Jan 20 weekend so sounds like we're in the clear!
