QUOTE (Knuguy @ Feb 04, 2023 - 08:07 pm)
Thx for the suggestions, guys.
LS----so your tactic would be to tease and taunt the bottom dwellers to chase your bait/lure as opposed to looking for lakers swimming by further up the water column? I was also thinking of tapping the bottom a few times with a Little Cleo of similar spoon.
Disco D----You and I have fished together. You must know that, unlike you, I'm an old geezer. Most of my 'get up and go' has got up and gone'. Sometimes I can move reasonably if there is not seep snow or slush as it is right now.
😂😂 yes I know. You don’t always have to move far. 😂😂.
If you can’t move I would still steer clear of try to convince neutral fish to bite. Just have to keep the hood of an active fish coming by sometimes. That and if your just fishing bottom you’re most definitely missing all the other lakers in the water column.
Try watching some of Clayton Shicks YouTube videos on lakers. They are great teaching aids and fun to watch. Same with Assorted Meats videos on lakers.

Thx---I watched a couple. A bit out of my league in terms of fish size, numbers, location, gear etc
I was surprised that they let their baits sit on the bottom. I never do that, intentionally at least. Might be a bit more risky on the Cdn Shield though. I was surprised that the trout picked it up off the bottom. I thought it was just the 'bottom feeders' such as ling that did that.
The Uncut Angling video was quite well done IMO----good editing, using FFWD etc.
Get a load of the bait size--cisco---he was using. Just slightly smaller than some of the fish we catch.

Just watched this Gord Pyzer video about fishing near the surface. I wonder what evidence he has to support this contention that lakers swim right below the ice? Interesting theory.

Very cool! I have seen this before but I guess I’m stubborn and stick to old ways - I’m interested to start trying this next time out with big dead baits
