My buddy and I are fishing Lake of Bays this weekend for the first time. Hoping to target lake trout or pickerel, planning on fishing all through the night. Any suggestions on depth or baits?

Nothing specific just pointers!

David

Don’t target walleye if you value your time. Lakers though, and ling if you’re staying all night - any type of natural bait alive or dead fished on/near bottom should get you ling through the dark hours.

If you want walleye and lakers, head to Rosseau

I'm headed up that way next weekend! What is the ice, and more specifically, slush situation right now?

I've always had the most luck with live minnows on LOB for lake trout. Good luck!

There was foot of snow and 5" of slush under it last Sunday, very tough walking. Be careful on deep water ice, there was 6 - 5" of ice in bays and shallow areas.

As on other Muskoka lakes, you can find lakers and whitefish in areas with 30' - 65' depths.

Friend of mine got a 27” walleye out of one of the smaller bays in north end…. But I tend to think they’re a fluke out there… but have heard of guys doing well north end for walleye evening bite 25-55 fow. Most people target lakers and whitefish there… and big pike. And night fish burbot for sure.

100% agree. On LOB day time it is all lakers and whitefish (and some odd pike). Night time it is burbot (and smelt if you are looking for it)

6 inches slush was pretty consistent all over. 8 inches of ice, half of which nice a dark and clear. Tough walking, BRUTAL pulling a sled!!

Skunked. Marked a few fish in 40 FOW on the bottom but weren’t able to get anything to commit to a bite. Maybe this cold front shut them down. However we fished in spot where there were lots of other fishermen and blood on ice. Nothing on the live bait
