I heard that hut operators use removing rental huts in Port Boster today ahead of the forecast for an above freezing trend for the next 14 days. Is the season over before it began?

I saw Taj yesterday and he never mentioned pulling the huts, and I specifically said see you in two weeks. Maybe the other operator in Port Bolster is pulling his off because he is not getting any business. Taj is busy and I trust his judgement . No panic here I saw lots of ice yesterday and the temps are dropping again after the warm spell....I think we will be fishing boys and girls.

Thanks all for the input, I was hoping to get out in a couple of weeks for the first and last time this season but it looks like a no go . I also need to cancel reservations at the Ramada. Guess I can dream for another year about an ice cold Molson with a prime rib dinner at lake simcoe arms after a long day if ice fishing in frigid weather with my buds ! Oh well dream on……..

I just got off the phone with Casey's. They are operating and the ice is stable. I have a booking for tomorrow and just wanted to confirm before making the trip. The overnight temps are in the negative, so crossing fingers that the ice will hold for a few days. I was there on Tuesday, a slow fishing day, but the best customer experience ever, and I have been fishing the lake since the mid 80's. A great operation!

I went out with Taj on Friday Feb 10th. The drive was interesting in their Argo, with lots of water and slush. definitely not a day to go for a walk out there. The ice was very thick where the huts were, but mostly white ice based on the hole (over 12"). As the weather was not the greatest (high winds and about +5). I was not expecting much. As it turned out, one of the most productive days I have ever had in terms of size. Lots of jumbos, a fish every minute or so. Loads of fun. Other huts had the same luck when we talked to them. Both my firend and I had PB fish, so Taj knows where the fish are. Saw some cisco schools on the camera, but no whitefish, even though they were in the area.

My son and I went out with Taj this past Friday as well. 8.5hrs with no fewer than 15 perch on the camera at all times. We caught about 80 fish each, kept 30 between 10-12”. All the 12”+ and below 10” fish went back. It was a good mix of size ranges and they were aggressive as hell (a dozen or so fish were caught on bare hooks after they stripped out minnows). And the favourite part of every fishing trip I do with my son is that he caught the biggest, second bigest fish and so on. He’s 11 and outfishes the old man on a regular basis. FYI we weren’t really equipped properly for it be there were dozens of decent sized whitefish around through the day, just could get them to bite with the tackle we had.

We were there Tuesday and slayed them. Hope you do better tomorrow.
