Went out to one my favourite lakes today with the goal of staying late and landing a Burbot, aka. Ling, aka. Eelpout. Walked out around 8am, about a kilometre out to the reef. Best walking conditions all year. Mother Nature fixed the ice this week, and everything tightened up beautifully. No slush. No snow. Just a perfect crust to walk on. Anywho… the fish were swimming through on my graph all day, but really tough to convince to bite, I lost two fish and missed 6 more bites in the morning, all on simcoe bug, one whitefish right under the ice. I did try it All and nothing was working. Noon came around and the action on the graph was more sporadic and seemed more concentrated tight to bottom, so I downsized the meegz and sent it down to bottom, tipped with a plastic bait, after messing around a while I manage to nail a whitefish and get it topside. Missed a couple bites doing the meegz dance and decided to switch it up to smallest vibrato around 2pm, and immediately slammed an nice little laker, played with a few fish until dark and managed to lose some more fish… but finally got my Ling. All the Ling action was between 6pm-6:30pm then they vanished and the graph was empty. I only managed the one but it made it a three species day for me and I couldn’t be happier. Packed it in around 7pm and now I’m home and ready to sleep. In our group of 4 I managed all the fish, couple of the guys had enough around 4 and headed home, my other buddy and I stuck it out, maybe next time we will get better at the Ling. Ling on glow jig with half a minnow. 42ft all day long. Mind the goofy expression on my face.

Good three keepers there - a decent day for you, pretty slow for your friends though. I’m sure if you hung around later you’d get into some more ling

Somehow, before I started reading, I knew this story would have a happy ending
