Its important for safety to know where and what the ice thickness is on Joe as the main part of the lake freezes last and would normally be thinner…
Isn’t it important for safety to check for yourself? What did we ever used to do before this type of info was posted online?
Lol.
Ya you’re right. 🙄
Why would anyone use any type of information available for even more safety? What did people do before weather reports? Make sure you turn off your radio and don’t check any weather sources. Oh and don’t call or answer calls because what did people do before phones?
I for one support more safety so ALL ice reports are a valuable tool to protect human life. If you get your reports from your friends or on line it doesn’t matter. It’s for safety.

My point is just that if you are asking for specific ice conditions in specific locations, I feel that you may be relying a bit too much on others for your own safety.

Agreed. Too many people rely on other peoples reports of specific locations. Now most people will be smart and check when they get to their location. But I have heard this phrase a thousand times......( that guy said the ice was safe).....The other night I was sitting in a canoe fishing for crappie. The ice was not safe that was near me. 60 feet away the ice was safe. Ask your questions but don't be complacent. Bring all the proper gear and check the ice, then check it again. Also I see so many questions on hear that some very nice people take the time to help out and answer. If you ask a question and one of the kind members answers it for you, say thank you. And get back to us with a report on how you did. If you caught fish we would like to know. If you didn't catch fish, maybe we could be more help with another question. Share a story or two as well, don't be a one or two post a year member. You never know, you might make a new friend on here to fish with, or just collaborate with. I joined this forum because of so many nice people trying to help out and share fishing knowledge and fishing tales with others. I thought sharing my knowledge of crappie and walleye at night would be fun. And I have met some very nice people so far or just exchanged stories and experiences here on the Fishing Forum. Anyways...good luck and stay safe.

Any ice report is valuable to allow anglers an idea of what conditions are like.
I would hope people wouldn’t just jump onto the ice based on any report and would think the report gives information that can help make a good safe decision.
No point in telling anyone to just go check for themselves.
I for one would like a simple ice report on Lake Joe in regards to Foots Bay access point. Is there even ice there to get onto the lake? Last year the Marina turned on their bubblers early to clear ice for dock work. I want to know if I can walk on. If some gives a report I am not just marching onto the ice irresponsibly. I sure don’t want to drive for an hour and a half just to look. Last year I got to the access and there was zero ice for 50-60’. I would have been very grateful to know this before I went to look for myself.
Let’s be kind and helpful on this site and not turn it into the negativity. You see on all social media.

It's funny when two people are right, and you both are right. Both polite opinions from the opposite perspective of the subject. Just like I said, people should not be complacent (lax). Take what information you like from an ice report. The final choice of going for the long drive to fish is up to you. Think of this, you are sitting in your car at a red light with a passenger at your side. The passenger suddenly blurts out GO!! The light is green. You should say thank you to your passenger. BUT, before you move you should check for your own safety and the safety of your passenger before proceeding.

The ice was decent by my stardards where I fished in 65 fow and I found better ice about 300ft away from that spot. I did not venture out to the main lake or Foots Bay so I can't report on conditions there. There were snowmobiles running up and down the lake but not stopping. Plenty on quads and snowmobiles where I was. These were the best conditions for walkers I have seen in the 3 or 4 years I have been fishing this location with only a few inches of snow and next to no slush. Forcast shows about 20 cm of snow coming in the next few days. Im not sure If I can make it up this weekend but if I do I will report what I find. I suspect the ice will have grown from Sunday when I was there last.

I don't think anybody would decide to go on the ice just based on what they read or heard. Those posts just help people to decide if it's worth going to check to see if they consider it safe.

If I were to post conditions or L Joe or wherever and some hoser went there, went on the ice based solely on my post and drowned, I really don't think I can be held responsible. IMO, we don't need to add any disclaimer or CYA wording to those sort of posts---or at least i sure hope not....not in the same way the vendors add such inane warnings to batter acid or whatever.

As promised above a report from Lake Joe…. Well the good with the bad today. Went fishing at Lake Joseph today for Lake Trout. I had one on but lost him at the hole. It was my only hit of the day. It was a blustery snowy day with a temp of -17 most of the day. Lots of fresh air as we fished outdoors all day with no ice hut. My two partners in crime also without fish. One with missed bites and the other bringing up one too small and was released. We fished from 7am till 4 pm. Sorry no pics of this beautiful spot as I forgot my cell in the truck……. Next time folks. We were on 7 inches of ice. Lots of sleds and a few ATV’s
