Can someone give me an update on the state of Chemong Lakes ice? Will save me a 20 minute drive just to check.

I know it doesn’t help you much today but I’m going to check the conditions on Saturday and I can let you know

My friend says more than 6" he lives on the lake.

I've been on Rice since Dec 16 - up to 9" of ice now.

Got antsy and went out anyways. 6" solid ice with little to no snow. Saw a dozen people out, a few ATVs and two permanent huts.

I live on Sturgeon for 31 years now, while ice here is getting OK in no/low current areas, be aware that traditional open water sections, are much larger than you would expect right now. The new years rain just compacted the snow on top of very thin base. Most fast water open areas have just skinned over from 3 nights ago, and the rivers are pouring water in. Larger lakes just north of the Kawartha's, up to Dorset, are NOT safe. Last year our permanent hut, was out on this week coming Jan 17, and looks to be a couple cold snaps away, this year. I won't go out on any ice except for small isolated ones right now. Just saying, if you don't KNOW the lake very good, take abundant precautions. NO lakes have seen any snow machines yet, and accordingly no drowning fatalities this season. BE SAFE.

How's Rice been this year? I feel like every time I fish there it gets more and more empty. Not like what it was 10+ years ago. Was thinking of launching out of Bewdley just to scratch the itch
