After a long day of staring at the graph, missing 100 bites and snapping the line on a behemoth…. We’re are nearing the last 30 min on the ice…My nephew (whom I basically raise as my son) asked me; “what’s this lure for?” Picking out the 4” swammer… I say; “big lake trout”…. He says “tie it on please”… I oblige and we get back to fishing…. We both have fish finders and have. When playing with some big marks all day… 3:45pm come around…. “I got one!!” I look over and his rod is keeled over and he’s reeling like a mad man, fish peeling line…. I say “slow down! Reel steady! But slower!” After a quick battle in the hole I stick my hand down and yank out the fish… his biggest laker ever! Good job Walker! He was so proud catching the only fish of the outing. We were on a slot lake and fish measured just shy of 24”, so she’s a keeper. We packed up shortly there after and he insisted he carry his fish all the way back on the 1.5km trek back to car. Mission accomplished! Someone is hooked better than that trout. His first time fishing with the electronics… and good on him for picking the winning lure. I’m too proud. Will see what tomorrow brings.
