Renting a cottage here and checking a couple of lakes for lakers and pike. The first lake had a clean win over me and my son. No fish, just a beautiful sunset with a bit of color to the black and white picture.

Today have tried another lake. Found a spot with smelt and fished for them expecting lakers to come by. Unfortunately no lakers. Caught 28 smelt for a tasty snack. It is a 10" plate.

Wow, so we both spent this this long weekend in Algonquin Highlands.
Well done. Those fried smelt looks nice and tasty!
As to me myself while at the cottage, I fished 4 days straight, and fished two lakes, and caught close to 20 small laker, and a couple of a bit bigger one (at 3 lb each).

never gone for smelts, but looks delicious. what do you get them on?
Had to downsize a lot.
My son used the drop shot setup above, the hook was about 3' above the weight. I used the tungsten jig head below. A pain to get it down to 35', but I caught more fish. Adding a half or a third of chartreuse crappie nibble seemed to help a lot to get bites.
